With one eye on feeding the world’s steel mills and the other on developing a long-term sustainable mine with as little environmental impact as possible, Vale contracted Coffey Mining to provide geological mapping and surveying and modelling and resource estimation as well managing the operations with adherence to strict environmental guidelines.
Coffey Mining was responsible for the rehabilitation and reafforestation, including the replanting of bromelia plants damaged during the project activities.
Located deep in the Amazon rain forest, in the Carajás region, Northern Brazil, Serra Sul is an iron ore mine developed by Vale, the world’s biggest iron-ore producer.
