Albury Wodonga Hume Freeway project

Client

Abigroup Contractors Pty Ltd

Year

2004 – 2006

Location

Victoria & New South Wales, Australia

The Albury Wodonga Hume Freeway links the Hume Freeway at Wodonga with the Hume Highway at Ettamogah, north of Albury.

The New South Wales section of the freeway is a 14.9 km route with four lanes, separated by a median with detailed urban design and consistent landscaping in keeping with the local environment.

The freeway greatly reduces transit times and heavy vehicle flows. The multi-function road corridor was designed with full consideration of Albury’s inner residential and urban areas, while being responsive to the local ecology and the river floodplain.

The scope of work involved:

  • traffic management (including modification of existing traffic signals)
  • bulk and detail excavation
  • stormwater drainage
  • service relocations (including overhead power lines, sewer and water)
  • bridge construction (19 in all)
  • retaining wall and noise barrier construction
  • concrete and asphalt pavements
  • property adjustments
  • finishing works including footpaths, cycle-ways and landscaping.

The freeway opened to traffic in mid 2007.
