The contracts have been won by Coffey’s wholly owned subsidiary company, Specialist Training Australia (STA), a part of the Coffey International Development business, and will provide training to government to strengthen communities and improve regional stability.
STA has undertaken many contracts for government clients in the region since Coffey acquired the company in 2005.
These initial contracts are worth approximately A$100 million over five years, with potential for further contracts in this field and opportunities for other Coffey divisions.
Managing director Roger Olds said that these contracts were the result of strategic investments that Coffey had been successfully pursuing throughout the Middle East.
“These contracts were won against strong international competition and highlight the esteem in which Coffey’s specialist skills and capabilities are regarded.”
Coffey has carried out major training and institutional development contracts in the Middle East over a number of decades and is currently one of the region’s largest providers of institutional strengthening.
“This win further reinforces the strong growth we’ve seen in our international development business in Australia, Asia Pacific, Europe and more recently, the USA,” Roger said.
“These important contracts will support a significant uplift in contribution from our international development business in FY09 and beyond.
“We are delighted to be delivering these specialist training contracts. They add to the significant amount of project management work we have in the booming Middle East construction sector. It will further strengthen the relationship between this important region and Australia,” Roger said.
