Coffey member of successful Kempsey Bypass Alliance
(
25 November 2009) Coffey International Limited (“Coffey”) is part of an alliance team being formed to deliver the road works portion of the Kempsey Bypass Project.
The main bridging over the Macleay River floodplain will be built under a separate design and construct contract. The alliance will deliver the main road works and all other activities, including preparation of the site for the bridge contractor.
The alliance team includes RTA NSW, Leighton Contractors Pty Ltd, AECOM and Coffey.
When built, the Kempsey Bypass will be a four-lane divided highway between Kempsey and Frederickton of some 14.5 kilometres in length that includes 2.2 kilometres of bridges.
Coffey’s role is to conduct all necessary investigations, undertake detailed design of pavements, embankments, bridges and other infrastructure. Two of Coffey’s specialist businesses, Coffey Geotechnics and Coffey Information, will be involved in the project delivery. Coffey Geotechnics will provide geotechnical investigation and design. Coffey Information will perform materials testing for the project.
Mr Peter Mirkov, Coffey’s global sectors manager and a member of the Alliance Leadership Team said: “This project award follows a series of other road infrastructure Alliances that Coffey has successfully completed in New South Wales for the RTA. We are very pleased to be part of the successful team and we look forward to working with RTA, Leighton and AECOM in delivering innovation, value and quality for the people of Kempsey and road users of NSW.”
The A$618 million Kempsey Bypass Project is jointly funded by the NSW and Australian governments. Work begins immediately and is scheduled for completion in 2014.
