Coffey master planning redevelopment of Fremantle Oval Precinct

(29 June 2010) Coffey International Limited subsidiary, Coffey Commercial Advisory, has been engaged to undertake a master plan for the redevelopment of the Fremantle Oval Precinct, in Western Australia, on behalf of clients and stakeholders; Fremantle Football Club (“FFC”), South Fremantle Football Club (“SFFC”), Department of Sport and Recreation WA (“DSR”) and Australian Football League (“AFL”).

Coffey Commercial Advisory, in partnership with Cox Architects and quantity surveyors WT Partnership, will deliver a study with project recommendations to address the requirements of the clubs, their members, supporters and the local community.

The master plan will focus on both existing and new facilities as well as any additional requirements of the two clubs. It will also consider the surrounds of the oval, including replacement of the concrete terracing with grass banks to enhance the multi-purpose usage of the venue, and create opportunities for additional commercial revenue.

Commenting on the project, Coffey Commercial Advisory general manager - sport Brad Paatsch said: “We are excited with the opportunity to use our planning and commercial advisory expertise to assist with the development of much needed additional facilities and deliver smarter solutions to maximise joint multi-usage of the Fremantle Oval Precinct to satisfy community needs and participation as well as ongoing commercial viability.”

FFC chief executive officer Steve Rosich said that FFC and SFFC recognise that the Fremantle Oval precinct no longer offers the required facilities for elite sporting organisations, the community or local business.

“The training and administration facilities are in need of a significant upgrade to match rival AFL club standards. Community and business access to the precinct is currently very poor and a plan that builds a relationship between the football clubs, the community and local business is a priority. We will work with stakeholders, including the City of Fremantle, to achieve this.”

Coffey Commercial Advisory’s sport and recreation practice is one of Australia’s leading team of specialists in the sport, leisure and stadia sector, underpinned by a reputation for innovation and planning excellence.

The consultancy has developed master plans for sporting organisations across Australia for projects including the redevelopment of Geelong Football Club’s Skilled Stadium, the redevelopment of Carlton Football Club’s VISY Park and the redevelopment of North Melbourne Football Club’s Arden Street facility.
