Coffey has embarked upon a new strategic direction since Managing Director, John Douglas, commenced in March this year. One of the platforms of his Strategic Review was the restructuring and renewal of talent in the leadership team.
Mr John Douglas stated: “Having the right people in the right roles is critical to our long term success. As part of this I’ve worked with the business to adopt a new organisational structure, implemented a new performance-based rewards scheme and initiated management changes as appropriate to increase discipline, align performance with shareholders' interests and attract and retain talented staff.
“We now have a good balance of quality young professionals, experienced senior managers, long term Coffey employees and some fresh talent. Our focus will continue to be on creating an even better place to work for our staff and improving our performance,” he said.
These appointments follow the recently announced appointment of former Group Executive Business Development Mark Croudace as the new Group Executive Environments.
The management changes accompany Coffey’s Board renewal process which was discussed at the Annual General Meeting.

John Talbot appointed CIO of Coffey International
John Talbot, former General Manager of Enterprise Services with the Commonwealth Bank, has been appointed as Chief Information Officer for Coffey International Limited (“Coffey”).
Mr Talbot is an experienced IT executive with a strong track record of creating robust and scalable IT architecture and infrastructure. Prior to joining Coffey, John held executive leadership roles, including General Manager – Enterprise Services for Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Chief Technology Officer of Infrastructure for Commonwealth Bank of Australia – Wealth Management division, Head of IT Infrastructure Services for Colonial First State, and Associate Director of Infrastructure Services for Rothschild Australia.
In addition, John has worked in his own consultancy since 2009 providing high-level strategic advice and IT consulting services to clients such as Lloyds International.
In his new role, Mr Talbot is responsible for supporting Coffey’s service lines with information technology, improving business processes and also supporting Coffey’s IT products.
Mr Talbot was appointed in August and following an initial strategic review will focus on building IT as a strategic asset across Coffey starting with re-establishing a disciplined technology services team.
Mr Talbot said, “The strategy is based on three key areas. Firstly, ensuring we have the right people doing the right jobs. I will be building the skills, capability and culture of our people and driving operational excellence through a service management framework.
“Secondly, I see IT as a strategic asset that can be maximised through strong IT governance to create greater planning and collaboration between the businesses and Coffey’s IT function,” he said.
“Thirdly, I am also reviewing our unique IT products to see where we can offer our clients more value. Coffey’s geosciences businesses deliver specialist technology products such as real-time geographic information systems and geospatial solutions to infrastructure, mining, and oil and gas clients.
“My first impression is that Coffey has a great culture – there is a new sense of energy here. I see we have a lot to do but I expect we can achieve a lot this year,” he said.
Coffey’s Managing Director, John Douglas, said Mr Talbot was appointed for his leadership qualities and track record in delivering transformation programs for improved customer service and cost efficiencies.
“John brings to Coffey significant experience in leading large infrastructure projects and has executed major technology initiatives to support growth.
“John will be managing projects to streamline Coffey’s business processes and to build out the technology platforms,” he said.
