(21 April 2011, Ipswich, Queensland): A subsidiary of Coffey International Limited, Coffey Commercial Advisory, has secured a contract with the City of Ipswich Council in South East Queensland to establish the program management office (PMO) overseeing the flood recovery activities for the City of Ipswich. The PMO will make certain the proposed implementation of the Ipswich Flood Disaster Reconstruction Plan is in line with the National Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements.

The setting up of a PMO will assist the Council by ensuring a proactive and coordinated reconstruction effort of Ipswich community assets focused on Parks and Council buildings with an estimated repair cost of $60 million.

The PMO’s goal is to complete the Flood Disaster Reconstruction / Recovery Program (FDRP) on time and within budget. It will ensure the investment, governance and community obligations are met at Local, State and Federal levels.

The PMO will report the current status of reconstruction, identify proactive resolution of any roadblocks delaying the process, and engage with key stakeholders to confirm the program.

Coffey Commercial Advisory Service Line Manager Chris Tyrrell stated the awarding of the assignment highlighted the calibre of experience that Coffey has in program management, working with all levels of governments and also the technical knowledge of what remediation works involve.

“We were awarded this responsibility as we demonstrated our thorough understanding of the likely reporting and governance needs of Local, State and Federal Governments. In addition, the work Coffey does in other Service Lines in remediation works means we completely understand the technical side of the actual works,” he said.

Coffey Commercial Advisory commenced working with the Ipswich Council in March establishing an investment assurance and governance processes to begin roll-out of urgently needed reconstruction works from the end of March. CCA has tendered for the second phase which, if secured, will make CCA responsible for ongoing stewardship of the PMO until the completion of the program.
