Project Management Fundamentals (COF001)
This two-day program delivered by experienced, practising project managers and academics introduces project management concepts, principles and procedures.
The program will teach participants the best practices of Project Management which upon completion will enable them to:
- identify project aims, objectives, deliverables, outcomes and boundaries
- write a project plan
- define the project scope and decompose the project into manageable work packages and activities
- monitor progress and take corrective actions
- effectively manage risks to the project
- effectively manage changes to the project
- be familiar with using key project management techniques such as critical path analysis, work breakdown structures, scheduling, as well as cost, risk and change management
- understand the project closeout process.
Project Management Fundamentals is an introductory program utilising case studies and workshops combined with theory to introduce the core competencies of project management. The program is designed for people in project roles with limited project management experience. They may be in either a pure project management based organisation or seconded to project work within functionally orientated organisations. However, it is best suited to someone who has some prior management experience or as an adjunct to management studies.
Course Topics
- Introduction to Projects: What is a Project, Aims, Objectives, Deliverables, Outcomes and Boundaries and how they fit in the organisational setup.
- Project Plans: Writing a Project Plan, Strategic Need, Gap Analysis, Business Case, Project Evaluation and Definition
- Project Scope: Determine project scope, inclusions and exclusions, Work Breakdown Structures and managing project scope.
- Risk Management: How to identify, evaluate and manage risks on the project including software available for risk evaluation
- Contract Management: Methods of procuring goods and services for your project and management of the resultant contracts.
- Time & Cost Management: Project time and cost to keep a project on time, within budget and meet the desired level of performance.
- Monitoring & Controlling: Monitoring and controlling the execution and delivery of the project in accordance with project plans.
- Project Closeout: Closing out, post completion and post utilisation reviews.
Who Should Attend?
This introductory program is suitable for personnel, with previous management experience, seeking to introduce and implement project management principles and processes.
