Johannesburg, South Africa
The greater Johannesburg metropolitan area is a cosmopolitan city which has eight million inhabitants and is the most populous city in South Africa. It is the capital of the Gauteng Province, the wealthiest province in the country and the fourth largest economy in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Johannesburg’s land area of 1,644 km2 is very large and the city has relatively little high rise development. It is centrally located within South Africa and boasts impressive infrastructure including a large international airport, modern shopping centres, excellent private schools and an extensive highway network. The Drakensberg Mountains and many game resorts and parks, including the famous Kruger National Park, are within 3-5 hours drive.
Johannesburg is generally considered to have the best climate in South Africa: sunny, dry and moderate winters and summers with daytime temperatures generally in the high 20s and late afternoon thunderstorms to cool the day.
