Coffey International Development takes action for the Elimination of Violence against Women
(
26 November 2009) Violence takes many forms, from the physical to the emotional and includes sexual harassment and discrimination. Did you know that even a sexist joke can lead to attitudes that not only encourage violence, but also create a culture of silence where violence is allowed to occur? Did you also know that studies indicate that 90% of men are at times uncomfortable with how men around them talk about and treat women?
November 25th is the International White Ribbon Day, the largest effort in the world where men and women are leading campaigns to end violence against women.
At Coffey International Development, we are proud to have in our team one of the newly appointed White Ribbon Day Ambassadors, Mel Dunn, Business Development Manager. White Ribbon Ambassadors are men who are willing to take a stand and be positive role models to other men in the community.
“If you were to look around you as you read this, I am sure you see many women; many of whom would be your friends and trusted and important colleagues,” said Mel. “I am equally certain you would never want any of them to be a victim of violence, nor would you want this to happen to your wife, sister, mother or daughter.“
At Coffey International Development, we are committed to taking action in promoting gender equality as an integral part of effective and sustainable development, and ensuring respectful partnerships between men and women in any of our activities. With our staff, our clients and our partners, we are also committed to act with integrity, work safely and demonstrate respect for all.
