Coffey Environments has staff with contaminated land auditing accreditation for all Australian jurisdictions which currently operate statutory auditing systems (VIC, NSW, SA and WA).

Auditors are called upon regularly to apply their training and expertise in all states and territories including those which have not yet developed statutory auditing systems.

Auditing work involves the independent, expert review of assessment and/or remediation validation reports. Generally, auditor review results in certification of the site in terms of appropriate uses, and use limitations.

Typically, contaminated land auditing is undertaken to allow redevelopment of land impacted by former industrial uses.

The requirement for auditing may originate from a range of causes including the following:

  • statutory requirement from a planning authority as part of the redevelopment process of potentially contaminated land
  • requirement of an regulator Clean-up Notice
  • voluntarily audit either for internal due diligence purposes or prior to divestment of a site. This latter purpose is often as a means of demonstrating potential for re-use of a site, enhancing sale value of the property.
