Elvira Nigido – Manager National Halon Bank

Elvira Nigido is the Manager of the National Halon Bank. Elvira has been involved in the development and operation of the Halon Bank for over 15 years and has been the Operations Manager since 2003.

In December 1992, the Australian Government announced that it would establish a Halon Bank to manage the phase out and environmentally safe disposal of halons (an Ozone Depleting Substance) in Australia.

Elvira was recruited to DASCEM to assist in the establishment and implementation of Australia’s national halon banking program. This then extended to the management of other Ozone Depleting Substances like mixed refrigerants and Synthetic Greenhouse Gases for organisations and companies domestically and internationally.

Elvira and her team at DASCEM continue to provide leadership in the implementation of ozone protection programs. DASCEM provides the benchmark by which other countries measure their success in dealing with the management of Ozone Depleting Substances and Synthetic Greenhouse Gases.

Elvira has graduate and post graduate qualifications in Environmental Science and Business Management.
