Donating computer time to improve the lives of communities
The work that Coffey does to improve the lives of communities around the world takes specialist knowledge, passion and commitment from our people. The World Community Grid is one initiative that we contribute to, without having to lift a finger.
While breaking for lunch, or grabbing a coffee, our idling computers turn into a powerful research tool helping to solve the world’s most difficult health and societal problems on the World Community Grid.
Coffey computers are currently solving the following problems: Conquering Cancer, Fight Aids, Computing for Clean Water and The Clean Energy Project.
Coffey was introduced to the World Community Grid via our sponsorship of the Coffey International Award. This award given by the Business in the Community (BITC) association which recognises company programs that demonstrate positive impact on one of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. In 2009, IBM was the award winner for the World Community Grid.
IBM and members of the world’s leading science, education and charity organisations launched the grid in November 2004; they had a mission to create the largest public computing grid benefiting humanity.
